world
database comes from a
cleaned-up version of the CIA World Data Bank II; the
world.thin
database is a smaller version.
maps
library. To use them in your
Spotfire S+ session, type the command
library(maps)
.
map("world") map("world.thin")
The
world
database contains approximately 2 million points
representing the world's coastlines and national boundaries. This makes it suitable for
extracting countries, continents, etc., while still retaining sufficient detail. The size of
the database, however, makes it unsuitable for drawing maps of the entire world; for this
purpose, use the
world.thin
database.
Because they require large amounts of disk space, the world and world.thin databases are
not included with all Spotfire S+ installations. Both databases are installed if you do a
complete (or full) installation, they are optionally installed in a custom installation, and
they are not installed in a minimal installation.
The databases can be obtained in two different ways:
a highly-compressed 5Mb file (in ASCII format) from the statlib file server (http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/maps).
Do not try to execute
map("world")
. It will expand the Spotfire S+ process to many megabytes and may crash your machine.
# load the maps library library(maps) map("world.thin", fill=T, col=1:10) map("world", "Switzerland")
