Get Object Classes

DESCRIPTION:

Returns the classes of the objects given in names. If a named object doesn't exist in the database being searched, the corresponding element of the value is NA. Old-style (S Version 3) objects have class "COMMON" since the class of these objects is not explicitly stored. Note that objects are not read completely, but only enough to find the class. This is important, in that objects are not validated (see updateObjects).

USAGE:

getObjectClass ( names , where , meta )

REQUIRED ARGUMENTS:

names
Vector of object names.

OPTIONAL ARGUMENTS:

where
Database to search for named objects. If where is supplied, it can be either an object defining a database or a number representing its position in the search path. If where is not supplied, attached databases are searched.
meta
If supplied, searches the metadata instead of the ordinary data. Use meta = 1 to search "methods".

VALUE:

A named vector of classes corresponding to the names objects.
