A list containing the waiting time between eruptions and the duration of
the eruption for the Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park,
Wyoming.
The data were collected continuously from August 1st until August 15th, 1985.
There are a total of 299 observations.
The waiting time is the time interval between starts of successive eruptions.
The times are measured in minutes.
Some duration measurements, taken at night,
were originally recorded as S (short), M (medium), and L (long).
These values have been coded as 2, 3 and 4 minutes respectively.
See the reference for further details.
The list has the following components:
The data are from Azzalini and Bowman (1990) who analyze the time series and present a tentative physical model for the eruption patterns. Republished by permission of the Royal Statistical Society, London, U. K..
