silent.startup()
TRUE
if the environment variable S_SILENT_STARTUP
had a nonzero value when S-PLUS was started.
If the environment variable S_SILENT_STARTUP is set to any value
except the string "0" (zero) when S-PLUS starts, the system will not print
the location of the working database, the copyright messages, or the
version information. These are printed by default.
silent.startup
can be
used at any time during the session to determine whether the startup was
silent. Applications may wish to use this information in controlling the
level of their own messages.
S_SILENT_STARTUP is independent of whether S-PLUS is running
interactively or in BATCH mode, and of whether the
echo
option
is set to
TRUE
.
This mechanism is experimental and may change in future releases.
