Loess Smoothing Dialog Function

DESCRIPTION:

This function is used by the Loess Smoothing dialog.

USAGE:

menuLoSmooth(data, x, y, span=2/3, degree=1, family="symmetric",
             evaluation=50, plot.curve=T)

REQUIRED ARGUMENTS:

x
vector of abscissa values for the scatterplot.
y
vector of ordinate values for the scatterplot.

OPTIONAL ARGUMENTS:

data
an optional data frame in which to interpret x and y.
span
smoothing parameter.
degree
overall degree of locally-fitted polynomial. 1 is locally-linear fitting and 2 is locally-quadratic fitting.
family
the values are "gaussian" or "symmetric". In the first case, local-fitting methods are used. In the second case, the default, local fitting is used together with a robustness feature that guards against distortion by outliers.
evaluation
number of values at which the loess curve is evaluated.
plot.curve
if TRUE, a scatterplot with a corresponding loess curve is generated.

VALUE:

a list of values at which the loess curve is evaluated, and the corresponding evaluations.

SIDE EFFECTS:

A plot will be drawn if requested.
