S-PLUS Server Tools Dialog

Status

Indicates whether an S-PLUS Session Factory is running on the specified port. The Session Factory is a Java process which allows the creation of S-PLUS sessions from Java.

Port Number

The port to use for Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI). Most users will leave this as 1099, which is the default port for RMI.

If the port number is changed, press ENTER in the field or switch focus out of the field to have the change take effect.

Max Sessions

The maximum number of sessions to allow at one time. If there are currently more sessions than the specified number, then no new sessions can be started until the session count falls below the indicated maximum. Current sessions will not be affected by changes to this maximum.

If the maximum number of session is changed, press ENTER in the field or switch focus out of the field to have the change take effect.

Start Button

Press this button to start the Session Factory. If an RMI server is not running, an RMI server process will also be started.

Stop Button

Press this button to stop the Session Factory. Since RMI may be used by other Java processes, the RMI server will not be stopped. To stop the RMI server, use the "Splus -rmioff" command.

Log File Name

The name of the log file recording session factory activity.

Rotate Log Daily

If this box is checked then a new log file will be created daily. Otherwise, a single log file will be maintained.

View Button

Press this button to view the log file in a text window. Input to the dialog will be blocked while the text window is displayed.

Number of Sessions

Indicates the number of active sessions.

Refresh Button

Refreshes the list of active sessions.

Note that it may take a few seconds for a killed or completed session to completely shut down, and thus it will not be removed from the list immediately.

Kill Button

Kills the session selected in the Session Information Table.

Session Information Table

Presents information on the active sessions. This includes the Session ID, User ID, Session Host, Port Number, Display, Help Host, SHOME, and Work Dir.

This table does not atuomatically refresh its contents. Use the Refresh button to refresh the table.

Close Button

Press the Close button to close the S-PLUS Server Tools dialog.

Help Button

Press the Help button to view this help file.
