Select the desired session profile. The session profile contains the user name, server host, and a variety of optional settings for the S-PLUS session.
To create a new session profile, select "<New Profile>" and press the Edit button.
To create a new profile based on an existing profile, select the existing profile name and press the Edit button. Change the profile name and possibly other profile fields. Press Save on the Edit Session Profile dialog. In the resulting dialog, indicate that a new profile should be created.

Press the Edit button to launch the Edit Session Profile dialog. The dialog will be initialized with the values of the selected Session Profile, or with default values if is selected.
Press the Login button to attempt a login to the server. If the login is unsuccessful, an error dialog will appear. Otherwise the S-PLUS Client Login dialog will disappear and the Java GUI will appear.

Enter a name for the profile. Each profile must have a unique name. This is a required field.

Enter the name of the server on which to run the S-PLUS session. This is a required field.
Enter the name of the working directory on the server. This is the directory in which S-PLUS will attempt to locate an S-PLUS chapter containing the S-PLUS database of saved user objects. It will also be the default directory for locating server files.
The default value is the home directory of the user.
Press the Advanced button to display the Advanced Session Profile Options dialog.
Enter the display name. This is typically the same value as would be specified as the DISPLAY environment variable. This value is used by S-PLUS to launch X windows from functions such as brush(), edit(), fix(), motif(), page(), and spin().
The default value is the default display of the client host.
Press the Save button to save changes to the session profile. If the profile name has changed a dialog will appear asking whether a new profile should be created, or the name of the profile should be changed to the new name.
If this is a new profile or the profile name has changed, the new name must be different from any other profile names.
Press the Cancel button to dismiss the Edit Session Profile dialog without saving changes to the session profile.

Press the Help button to view this help file.
If the help viewer is not running, requesting help at the command line will launch help in an xterm window. If your DISPLAY is not set properly, opening the xterm may fail and the help request may appear to have no effect.
Requesting help from a menu or dialog will launch the help viewer, after which requests for help at the command line will go to the help viewer.
The help viewer may be started using "help.start()" or stopped using "help.off()".
Specify the URL for the help system. This may be used to make S-PLUS help available from a web server.
The default value is
http://hostname/shome
where hostname is the name of the server host.
Specify the port number to use for Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI). Most users will leave this as 1099, which is the default port for RMI.
Specify the prompt returned by the telnet process.
A telnet session is employed in acquiring an S-PLUS engine on the server. Something like a "chat" script is used during this process, where the client expects a particular response from the server before sending each new command via telnet. The default is to accept a space character as a valid server response. If there is difficulty in logging on to the server, one may specify a prompt string here. The telnet client will wait for the specified prompt to be returned by the server before sending new commands.
Specify the name of a file containing a telnet "chat" script needed to connect to the server via telnet. (This feature is not yet implemented.)
Press the OK button to close the dialog and store the current field values as part of the current edits to the session profile.
Press the Cancel button to close the dialog and discard and changes to the field values.
