Getting Help with the S‑PLUS® Workbench

Introduction

The S‑PLUS® Workbench is a customized plug-in for the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE). You can use the S‑PLUS Workbench and the basic Eclipse IDE features to:

Getting Help with the S‑PLUS Workbench

On the S‑PLUS Workbench main menu, click Help > S‑PLUS Manuals > S‑PLUS Workbench Guide. This action opens the S‑PLUS Workbench User's Guide PDF, which contains the UI reference and task-centered instruction for using the S‑PLUS Workbench.

NOTE   Whether you are working in Windows® or a UNIX® platform, you must have access to a PDF reader to open any of the PDFs shipped with S-PLUS.

To specify a PDF Reader

  1. On the S‑PLUS Workbench menu, click Window > Preferences.
  2. In the S‑PLUS node of the Preferences dialog, specify the complete path to your PDF reader's executable file.

Getting Help with S‑PLUS Functions

The S‑PLUS Workbench provides access to S‑PLUS function help topics.

If you have no function selected when you open S‑PLUS Help, the Help browser opens to the topic for the S‑PLUS help function.

Getting Help with Eclipse

The Eclipse IDE contains extensive, in-depth documentation for its user interface. For information about basic Eclipse IDE functionality, in the contents (left) pane of the Eclipse Help browser, click Workbench User Guide.

If you are not familiar with the Eclipse IDE, take the first few minutes to learn the basic concepts and IDE layout by working through the basic tutorial located in the Eclipse Workbench User Guide.
